H2Q’s Hot new Tech Pitch Battle – brought to you by BDO
This interactive, rapid-fire pitch session will provide an opportunity for up to 6-8 small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups to showcase their H2 innovative low emission technologies in a 4-5min pitch battle, helping them on their way to improving market commercialisation.
Short-listed candidates will be invited to present at the 2022 Hydrogen Connect Summit.
About the competition
Expressions of Interest are being sought for the BDO Pitch Battle. We are offering 5 start ups the chance to gain high value exposure and stakeholder awareness to the broad industry collective attending the upcoming Hydrogen Connect Summit at the BCEC from 8-9 September 2022.
Queensland Government, Hydrogen end users, producers of Hydrogen, services and products in the Hydrogen supply chain, academia and research will be in the audience, and looking for your innovation to award the Conference award.
The 5 competing start ups will receive:
- 1 FREE registration each to attend the H2Q Hydrogen Connect Summit
- Exposure to the high profile and influential attendees at the event
- Invitation to participate in the event deal making activities and be introduced to potential corporate partners or Investors
- The chance to fine tune commercial pitch
- Ongoing opportunities for engagement with the Innovation and start up community within H2Q
The crowd favourite winner from the Pitch battle will be joining the H2Q Innovation committee for a lightly structure 3 month mentoring program.

What’s Involved:
- Complete the application
Early stage startup’s are invited to submit their EOI through the web form below.
To qualify, start ups should meet the following “early stage” tests:
- Be in MVP or working with one or two early customers; AND
- Have not raised past a series b; AND
- Have less than 5 implementation sites; AND
- Have an innovation or technology that is scaleable; AND
- Have an innovation or technology that enables carbon emission reduction AND / OR;
- Have an innovation or technology related to Hydrogen and hydrogen industry development (this might be supply or value chain related); AND
- Be new to market
Applications are open for submission until midnight on 18th August 2022
Start – ups moving through to next stage will be advised on Friday 19th August 2022, allowing plenty of time to practice your pitch before the event.
- Attend the Pitch workshop – Thursday 25th August
Successful applicants will be invited to attend an in-person workshop at BDO in Brisbane on Thursday 25th August from 2pm – 5pm.
Up to 20 start ups will be invited to participate in a commercialisation workshop aimed at skills required to ‘pitch’ innovation to prospective investors, partners and customers.
On completion of the event, you’re invited to join H2Q Board and Members at social drinks, Riverside from 5-7pm

Five (5) of the best innovations will be invited to battle it out for the Conference awarded innovation at the Hydrogen Connect Summit.
The battle will showcase 5 Start up’s with novel and scalable low carbon or hydrogen technology and / or innovations.
A panel of industry experts will provide feedback and guidance on the day, and select an official winner.
The winner of the pitch battle will receive the opportunity to join H2Q for the 2022 / 23 year, feature in the H2Q newsletter and LinkedIn page and be invited to present at our end of year event at Custom’s House, Brisbane.

Robert specialised in business case management, authoring and coordination. Given his background in civil engineering and economics, he understands the connectivity and importance of finding a balance between a the best technical solution and the associated cost.
Robert has experience through the complete project life-cycle, ranging from planning and business case development, economic analysis, project management, detailed design and overseeing construction. He has completed projects for the local, state and federal government, and private clients in a broad range of sectors, including Live entertainment, Education, Transport, Energy and Natural Resources, Water, Health and Defence.
Robert is currently the Co-Chair of the Emerging Professionals in Infrastructure Queensland, Deputy President of the Engineers Australia Queensland Division and BJCC Ambassador.
